OCEAN Grove and Wallington fire crews were among 16 crews scrambled to tackle a 25ha grass fire in Mannerim on Monday afternoon.
About 40 firefighters tackled the blaze near the Bellarine Rail Trail off Banks Road and were assisted by the CFA helicopter which made three water drops to help crews that had the fire under control ensure it wouldn’t flare up if the wind changed direction.
The fire started at about 12.30pm and was under control by about 1.45pm. Police closed off Banks Road during the incident. A crime scene was also established and police were joined by a fire investigator.
Drysdale, Mannerim, Barwon Heads, Portarlington, Leopold, St Leonards and Queenscliff crews were also involved.
