POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision in Marcus Hill on Monday afternoon (June 8).
It appears a motorcyclist travelling east and a garbage truck travelling west collided on the Bellarine Highway about 12.40pm.
Investigators believe that the motorcyclist was overtaking when the collision occurred.
The motorcyclist, 42-year-old Paul Orchard from Leopold, died at the scene.
Police have taken a statement from the truck driver involved.
Bellarine Highway was closed to traffic in both directions between Banks Road and Portarlington Road for several hours whilst police investigated the scene.
Geelong Traffic Management Unit will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The accident brings the Victorian Road Toll for 2009 to 134, five less than this time last year.
