River death

A 27-year-old Ocean Grove man died in the Barwon River today (Sunday).

Police said the 27-year-old man was in Barwon River at Ocean Grove by himself and was not seen for about 5 minutes.

He was subsequently found face down in about 1 metre of water.

CPR was given by Life Guards and Ocean Grove Ambulance officers  for about one hour before the man was taken to the Geelong Hospital, but the man failed to respond to treatment.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death at about 10.25am.

A post mortem will be conducted to establish the exact the cause of death.

Police confirmed that the dead man came from Ocean Grove.
