FIREFIGHTERS joined SES crews and paramedics in rescuing a 50 year old builder who had fallen down a lift shaft on an Ocean Grove construction site.
The man was taken to Geelong hospital with head and chest injuries but they are not believed to have been serious.
The accident happened just before 4pm on Friday January 15 at the site on the corner of Hodgson and Orton streets.
It is believed the man fell between 1m and 2m and was conscious and breathing while crews assisted him.
He was fitted with a neck brace and dealt with as if he had spinal injuries.
A spokesman for WorkSafe, which will be investigating the cause of the incident, said the accident should highlight that falls even from relatively small heights can still lead to serious injuries.
“The message is people working above ground level need to anticipate the possibility of a fall.
“Falls were the single biggest cause of death last year.”
