Storm are Premiers

BELLARINE Storm under 12s travelled to the Eltham/Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament – and returned home having won the grand final in their division.
Three Bellarine Storm teams participated in the tournament which ran over three days during the Australia Day Weekend.
The under 12s played four games in which they were undefeated before the finals on Sunday. Scores in the 4 games were: Bellarine 30 defeated Werribee 10; Bellarine 18 defeated Collingwood 16; Bellarine 32 defeated Eltham (2) 11, and Bellarine 31 defeated Overnewton College 4
The game against Collingwood went down to the wire with the girls narrowly pulling off a one goal win. Although not reflected in the score, the game against Werribee was a very tough and physically hard fought battle.
The girls then played Werribee again in the semi final. It was a very determined Werribee team who put up a great fight and the scores were a lot closer this time round with the lead changing a number of times before the Bellarine girls finally got the upper hand late in the second half to win 17-13.
This put them into the grand final against Eltham (1) The first half was very close with only a matter of points separating the teams at half time. Again the girls finished strongly in the second half and “Stormed” to an 18-11 win. Carly Sanders was named MVP of the grand Final.
It was a great team effort with all girls playing a vital role in the team’s success.
