YOUNG Ocean Grove Cobras are showing great potential in early rounds of this year’s footy season.
Voice Reports Round 6
Round 6
Under 10 Blue Vs Leopold Lions
In fine conditions for football the cobras came out hungry for the ball. Logan Taylor was strong in the air while Angus Benson and Ninja Pearson were in and under the packs feeding the ball out towards the forwards. Jacob Dynes was having a huge impact playing of the half forward and kicked 3 fantastic 1st quarter goals.
During the 2nd quarter Jacob Dynes continued on with another 2 goals and when Jake Powe kicked his first for the day from a big pack of players the Cobras were up and about. Tommy Richardson was also playing strong in the back line with some big tackles and long kicks out of defence.
The 3rd quarter was a lot tougher with many ball ups and big packs around the footy until a loose ball came out and Luke Giblin swooped, kicking long towards goal where Angus Benson was ready and waiting, took possession and he slotted through his second goal of the day.
The final quarter was also a battle until Hamish McManus playing at full forward kicked a great goal from a large pack.
Great Game Cobras.

Under 12 Cobras Round 6 White vs Leopold Green
In ideal conditions at Leopold, the Cobras started well early banging on 3 quick goals only to see the opposition fight back to level the scores by half time. Head Coach Simon Hollmer inspired the Cobras with an encouraging address at the long break and it inspired the team in the 3rd term. The forwards dominated with goals to Brod Gist, Kyle Lattarulo, James Synnot and Wil Towson. The Cobras finished the game off with lots of run, strong tackling and plenty of pressure and with 2 final quarter goals they secured a great hard fought win.

Under 12 Cobras White Round 7 vs St Albans White
Friday night footy saw a very even contest in what were freezing cold conditions. Goals were very hard to come by despite some great footy being contested. Some great passages of play and powerhouse defence from Ned Weatherly, Owen Hollmer, Wilzen Crawford and Brod Gist helped the Cobras hold on to their early lead and run out eventual winners in an absolute nailbiter.

St Albans 3.11.29

Best J.Butteriss, J.Cuthill, N.Phillips, J.LeMaistre, R.Symonds, O.Young
Under 12 Cobras Orange Round 6 vs South Barwon Blue
The Cobras hassled and plugged away all day to finally come out winners in what was not a pretty game. A lot of individual and selfish football with no team work resulted in a switch from the usual game plan. By the last quarter things started to resemble the old playing style and the boys will take this into their next game I am sure.
Some great passages of play need special mention. Connor Harvey showed his usual prowess and strength in the forward area snagging a ripper and just falling short in what could have been the “goal of the year.” Lachlan Gawley Price’s speed was instrumental in setting up a couple of 6 pointers and the attack on the ball from big man Daniel Spence was a pleasure to watch. Joe McDonald needs only a sniff to slot a major and ended up with a couple by the end of the game.
The side is coming together well and just needs to be a little more discipline on game day to ensure true Cobras style of footy is played.
Cobras 8.6.54
Sth Barwon 2.2.14
Best: C.Harvey, D.Spence, L.Gawley Price
Goals: J.McDonald 2, D.Bradley,L.Gawley Price, C.Harvey, O.Monteith, B.Pickering, L.Smith
Under 12 Orange Round 7 vs Grovedale Roar
The Cobras were certainly back this week. They played a wonderful brand of team orientated footy. Captains Lachlan Madden and Declan Bradley led a pumped up side out on to the Snakepit on a beautiful day for footy. Right from the first bounce the Cobras looked the goods with big Blake Schwartz dominating at Centre Half Forward and Luke Fisher in the goal square making the most of every opportunity. The boys used their bodies to protect one another and played as they had trained.
Joel Ness was instrumental in goal after goal as he attacked the ball and dished off clever handballs to the Cobras mosquito fleet like Craig Goodger, Connor Harvey and Tom Smith. Riley Featherby was awesome back from missing a couple with injury and combined well with little tough man Ethan Bell to break the lines. The team focus for this round was “accountability” and they certainly achieved in this area. Great to see some players using their non preferred foot to kick particularly Jacob Bond roosting a monster left footer down into attack.
Special mention this week goes to Nathan Taylor who will miss a lot of footy after breaking his arm again. We may have lost a player on the field but we have gained an excellent assistant coach on the boundary line.
Cobras 8.12.60
Grovedale 4.10.34
Best: E.Bell, C.Goodger, R.Featherby, B.Schwartz
Goals: B.Schwartz 2, B.Pickering, L.Fisher, J.Lancaster, L.Madden, J.Peters,P.Attard

In the third quarter the Cobras booted 4 goals to South Barwons 1 thanks to some great play from Austin Wilcox across the half fwd line driving the ball into attack.
South Barwon came out firing in the last quarter kicking 4 goals to Cobras 3 behinds. With great team play and determination the Cobras had a 21 point victory.

Under 14(1) Round 6 vs Portarlington
We had a good 2nd win in a row against Portarlington 6 1 37 to 2 3 15.
Conditions were very difficult with a heavy dew making the ball become a piece of soap. We were very disciplined and hard at it forcing the ball our way enough times to give our forwards a chance.
James Teague, Nick Murphy, Ned Holland and Che Durran were all good through the middle of the ground.
James Stirling and Zaine Cordy were both strong at the ball at either end of the ground. Harry Walker and Tom Beasley both stood firm in defence.
Goals: Zaine Cordy 2, Lachlan Barber, Ned Holland, Nat Gravener, Miles Henderson 1
Under 14(1) Round 7 vs St Marys
In perfect conditions at Kardinia Park we came away with a good win against St Mary’s 5 3 33 to 3 4 22.
Our midfield were disciplined and gave us plenty of drive through the excellent play of Ned Holland, Christian West and Che Durran. Zac Ramsey was outstanding in his best game to date with his ball use a standout. Nick Anastassiou with his presence and pace gave us an avenue to goals and was rewarded with 2 goals.
Goals - Nick Annastasiou 2, Zaine Cordy, Zac Dynes and Lachlan Barber 1 each.
Each week we continue to get better as a team and the rewards will follow.
