AN Ocean Grove couple has chosen the world’s most romantic city to get engaged, writes Carly Helweg. Kane Ellingsen proposed to girlfriend Renee Blach on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris with Renee’s family present.
“It was the most surprised I’ve ever been,” said Renee.
Kane used some sneaky tactics to hide the planned proposal from his partner.
Putting money aside each week he chose the ring himself and then employed Renee’s parents to mind it in their luggage for the first part of their trip so the surprise wouldn’t be ruined.
The ring then slyly changed hands as they started climbing the tower.
“I was quite oblivious to the whole thing,” said Renee.
“I was wondering why Kane was running up the stairs so fast.”
Most of the Blach family had gone to Europe to support youngest sibling Matt who was competing in the Global Battle of the Bands in London with local band ‘The Rustys’.
They were all on hand to help celebrate with the young couple and help spread the news to family and friends back in Australia.
“We went and sat in the café on the second level and started talking to people and replied to messages,” said Renee.
High school sweethearts, the couple met whilst in year 11 at Bellarine Secondary College and have been together for eight years.
They recently built a home in the Parks estate in Ocean Grove and are looking to get married sooner rather than later.
“Once we’ve paid off the holiday, we’re looking at getting married at the end of next year; we don’t want to have a long engagement.”
