Ladder leading seconds

The Grubbers seconds continued on their winning ways, defeating Geelong by 34 points.

The win was set up in the first and third quarters where the Grubbers kicked nine goals to Geelong’s one.

A strong final quarter against the wind also helped them secure victory. They kicked two goals and kept Geelong to one goal to run out winners, 11.10-76 to 6.6-42.

James Stapleton strengthened his lead at the top of the seconds’ goal kicking ladder with eight goals from full forward.

Callum Jones, Andrew Lowson, Mathew Cuthbert, Mathew Uwland and Kaiden Long all contributed well to the win and were named in the sides best players.

The Grubbers remain a game clear on top of the ladder from nearest rivals Torquay and Modewarre.

Co-coach Kane Montgomery finished the game under an injury cloud. He was seen icing his left ankle long after the game had finished.
